Our Top Ten Movies for the Halloween Countdown
It’s a well known fact among anyone who has spoken to me for more than five minutes that Halloween is my favourite season and that I am a bit of a movie addict. With that in mind I have created a list of what I consider to be the top ten Halloween movies. Do you agree with my picks?
Orphan (2009)
Orphan is a psychological horror about an adoption gone very wrong. Full of twists, turns and a general feeling of uneasiness this movie had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
The Craft (1996)
A cult classic, this teen supernatural horror about what happens when you get in with the wrong coven is a true staple to fans of Halloween and witchcraft everywhere.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
A musical horror by Tim Burton, Sweeney Todd will make you laugh, cry and sing. Well at least, that’s the effect it had on me anyway. With a killer soundtrack and a cast to die for (see what I did there) it wouldn’t be Halloween without at least one playthrough of this movie.
The Call (2020)
A South Korean psychological thriller about what happens when you live in the same house as a serial killer on different timelines connected by a phone. This movie will have you on edge every time you hear a phone ring for days.
Village of the Damned (1960)
My favourite horror movie of all time, Village of the Damned is a science fiction horror movie about what happens when everyone in the village falls unconscious and the women all wake up pregnant. What are the consequences of these pregnancies and where did they come from?
Monster House (2006)
If you’re looking for a Halloween movie to watch with the kids this animated comedy horror is it. Creepy enough to keep you entertained but child friendly enough that you shouldn’t need to get up for a child having nightmares all week.
The Lost Boys (1987)
Another cult classic, this supernatural horror about vampires set in California is witty and creative. Starring Keifer Sutherland, Corey Haim and Corey Feldman it can’t be missed.
Train to Busan (2016)
A South Korean zombie horror that will have you biting your nails in anticipation. As the name suggests the movie follows a man trapped on a train to Busan during a zombie outbreak as he and the people around him (including his young daughter) fight for their survival.
Beetlejuice (1988)
It wouldn’t be a Halloween list without including Winona Ryder. Beetlejuice is a fantasy comedy movie that is both creepy and hilarious from start to finish.
The Addams Family (1991)
We’ve had Helena Bonham-Carter (Sweeney Todd) and Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice) but you can’t complete Halloween until you’ve also had Christina Ricci on your screen. The Addams Family is a supernatural black comedy that can be enjoyed alone or with the kids.
